Psychotherapy at essentia
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy takes place when a therapist uses a range of talking techniques to help improve a client’s sense of well-being. The goal of psychotherapy is to replace problematic behaviours with positive ones. Psychotherapy focuses on mental health, aiming to resolve negative or troublesome behaviours, thoughts or emotions. It can also be used in a group setting to improve group relationships or resolve conflict.
Psychotherapy can be used to assess and deal with all types of situations, including:
- Anxiety, inability to concentrate
- Abusive behaviour
- Inability to deal with stress
- Lack of confidence
- Excessive shyness
- Sadness, depression, emptiness or grief
- Extreme mood swings
- Relationship difficulties
- Issues of sexuality, sexual problems
- Loss, bereavement, divorce
- Loss of employment
- Eating disorders
- Obsessive behaviour
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Panic attacks and phobias
Psychotherapy can be a way of moving forward and is often seen as a continuation of the counselling process. It can allow you to feel an increased sense of well-being through exploring difficult feelings, identifying beliefs and value patterns, or confronting uncomfortable, awkward or even self-damaging behaviour.
No matter what the issue, exploring your feelings in a non-judgmental and empathic environment can help immensely.
“I was feeling apprehensive about discussing my concerns, Caroline helped me to feel relaxed and safe. Throughout our sessions I recognised that not only she helped me to see alternative perspectives, but that she genuinely listened to me. She is highly professional with many years of experience and I strongly recommend her.” - DC, Gloucestershire
Mindfulness is a method of mental training which allows for self-observation without criticism. Practicing mindfulness allows you to identify and eliminate negative thought patterns while enabling greater levels of compassion and respect for yourself.
Mindfulness is a very simple form of meditation. With Caroline’s guidance, you will learn how to meditate on your thoughts as they arise in your mind and identify any sources of anxiety or stress. Instead of struggling with these thoughts, mindfulness can help you see things in a more positive light.
